Glen Chambers was introduced by John Miles. Glen presented “Closeup: Canada Goose.”

Glen’s background is in animal behavior and wildlife management and has layered his talents in photography onto his primary interest.

Imprinting is an animal behavior discovered in 1936 where there is a 13-hour window after hatching when the chicks will adopt their “mother.” Glen imprinted a couple of geese on his son in 1972 in order to make a documentary on Hudson Bay. In 1995 he took some eggs from Chicago and raised another batch for filming. They built a special trailer to take them to different habitat where they would release the geese and they would follow the filming team, flying close alongside the boat.

They were required to return the birds to the wild (the pond on their farm) but “corporate” geese from town would come in and eat their corn. The Chambers’ had to let them into the house once in a while at first but they eventually stayed away longer. The original birds and their progeny would return to nest up against the house.
