Boone County Prosecutor Dan Knight described the work of his office. The Prosecuting Attorney prosecutes violations of state criminal law that occur in Boone County. These crimes include murder, robbery, drug offenses, traffic offenses and others. The basic principles of criminal law include commission of the crime; police investigation and, if there's enough evidence to support it, referral of the case to the prosecutor, who decides whether to file charges; pursuit of the case either to trial or to settlement. Mr. Knight responded to members questions on jail overcrowding; the Duke lacrosse team; witness intimidation; home invasions; and conflicts of interest.
