  • District Conference is May 5-6 in Rolla.  R.D. Ross, Dee Corn, Paige Scott, Tim Donovan and Andy Bonderer will be attending the conference.
  • The Columbia Rotaract Club will hold another membership drive on May 4th.  The drive they held last fall brought in 4 new members.  We will provide more information in Steve’s email meeting announcement next week.  Please be thinking of some young professionals you would recommend for membership in Rotaract.

  • Al Tacker announced a need for families to host an exchange student from Colombia, South America. She is 16 years old and a great student.  We will need three families willing to share the experience for approx 3-4 months each.  This is a very rewarding experience and hope you will consider participating. Please see Al if you are interested.

John Miles has coordinated the programs for April.  John was unable to be here today, but he’s sent an incredible individual to stand in for him. Our program today, presented by Dan Simon, was introduced by Beverly Miles, John's much better half!

Dan Simon was encouraged by John Miles to present a slideshow of Dan's recent trip to Israel. His slideshow which was an overview of the many sights he encountered along with his observations of local culture was appropriately titled "Mr. Simon Goes to Israel".

Thsi was Dan's first major traveling experience , one which he hopes to repeat again.. Among the many cities and places he visited included Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, the Western Wall and Yad Vashem (holocaust memorial). Military presence was seen  quite often throughout his travels, but it was not intimidating or threatening, despite the automatic machine guns that many of them displayed.

There were many  slides shown of local life and culture - wonderful displays of fresh food, plentiful herbs, and lots of falafel !!  Side streets are very narrow; however their highway system is very well developed.

Dan hopes to return again for a more extensive visit in the near future.
