Earl Proctor introduced Leo Funk as our newest member.  Leo is a retired banker from Lancaster, MO.  He was a charter member of the Schuyler County Rotary Club and served as its first president.  Leo is a World War II veteran who fought in the 8th Corp as part of General George Patton’s 3rd Army; he saw action in the European theatre.  When he returned home, he finished undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education Administration. Welcome to the Rotary Club of Columbia, Leo!

YOUTH EXCHANGE:

* One of our outbound Youth Exchange students comes from a family of modest means that recently had some financial setbacks. As a result, the family is about $800 short of the approximate $4,000 cost. We are seeking donations from club members to make up the shortfall. Checks can be made payable to the club (put "Youth Exchange" on the memo line) and given to Al Tacker, Steve Scott, Tony St. Romaine or Rollie Hausman.

* We are still looking for host families for a German Youth Exchange student for three to four months next school year. Niklas Klein will be 17 in July, is fluent in English, ranks in the top 10% of his class, and is athletic. It appears he will be a junior at one of our local high schools. If you can help, please email Al Tacker at altacker@aol.com.

June 17-20 is the 2007 International Convention in Salt Lake City. There is great information about the Convention on the Rotary International website:

NEED A RIDE TO ROTARY?

The Hospitality Committee prepares get-well cards for members who are ill and can set up rides for members who can't otherwise get to meetings. Please email Caroline Gower or call 874-8712 (work) 874-2451 (home).

Executive Director of the Boone Hospital Foundation, Jan Grossmann, presented a program on a new development at Boone.  The Boone Hospital Board of Trustees has taken up the issue of how to care for our aging population by building a state of the art Intergenerational Day Care.  This will be a place where both the aged and youth will be provided with day care.  Both age groups will see many benefits from their interaction.  Construction will begin this fall on the facilty.
