HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Bob Shaw celebrates his birthday on July 1st. Happy Birthday, Bob!

Earl and Helen Proctor celebrate their anniversary on June 28th; Matt and Renette Reiske will celebrate theirs on July 2nd. Happy Anniversary!

Paiged thanked Chief Markgraf for filling in for her at last week's meeting.

There will be a membership seminar on August 4th.

We are still looking for a host family for a German Youth Exchange student for three to four months next school year. Niklas Klein will be 17 in July, is fluent in English, ranks in the top 10% of his class, and is athletic. It appears he will be a junior at one of our local high schools, probably Rock Bridge. If you can help, please email Al Tacker.

Before Paige turned the podium over to Tony St. Romaine, she took the opportunity to recognize a few people.

In Her Own Words:

If we had another two hours, I would take the time to recognize everyone who contributed to the club this past year.  As I was putting together that list, I was taken aback by how many people contributed in both small and large ways to make this such a great year.  We really have an amazing club because of all of your individual efforts.  The first recognition goes to all of you and that is the Presidential Citation.  Once again you helped our club and our district earn this distinction and please give yourselves and each other a big round of applause.

Paige recognized the board members from the 2006-2007 Rotary year:

          Darcy Wells
          Rim Massey
          Kitty Dickerson
          Tony St. Romaine
          Janice Schuerman
          John Miles
          Darlene Johnson
          Jim Elliot
          Jim Ollar
          Steve Scott
          Rollie Hausman

Earlier in the year we elected new board members to serve a 3-year term starting July 1:

          David Clithero
          Rollie Hausman
          Lynn Barnett

Kitty Dickerson and Rim Massey just completed their terms on the board. Paige presented them with plaques and thanked them for their years of service.

Paige paid a special tribute to Secretary Steve Scott and Treasurer Rollie Hausman: These two gentleman are the glue that holds this club together.  Because they do their jobs so well and with such enthusiasm and detail, our club runs so smoothly.  Rollie and Steve, thank you for making this year so great and for all you do for all of us.

We're all grateful for Paige's tremendous leadership this past Rotary year. Thank you, Paige!

Tony presented Paige with a Past-President plaque; she presented him with his Club President pin.

Tony said it was amazing to be a part of the recent Rotary International Convention in Salt Lake City, There were over 16,000 delegates from 150 countries. During the first session he attended, he found himself seated with a fellow "Brummie" from Birmingham, England (Tony's home town)! As if this wasn't enough of a coincidence, the Rotarian from England is a city councilman! The new RI president is Wilf Wilkinson from Canada; the theme for the 2007-2008 Rotary Year is Rotary Shares.

We're all looking forward to a great year ahead under Tony's leadership.

NEED A RIDE TO ROTARY?

The Hospitality Committee prepares get-well cards for members who are ill and can set up rides for members who can't otherwise get to meetings. Please email Caroline Gower or call 874-8712 (work) 874-2451 (home).

Brenda Woods introduced our Rotary Youth Exchange student Veronica Rueda Rey. Vero arrived in Columbia from the República de Colombia on August 13th of last year. She shared slides and a video featuring her country, family and friends. She arrived in Missouri speaking very little English. Many of the American movies she watched before coming here featured high school proms; she was very exicited about attending prom this year. Vero expressed her appreciation to the Club for our support.
