Bob and Pat Curnutte on 9/24.  Pat suffered a heart attack on the 22nd.  Our thoughts are with both Bob and Pat as she recovers.



Jim Ollar announced a special SNEAK PREVIEW of "A Christmas Carol" at Stephens College on December 1.  This is a fundraiser for the Club so mark your calendars!  More information will be available soon.

ROTARACT MEMBERSHIP DRIVE: The Rotaract Club of Columbia will hold a membership drive meeting at the Colosseum Bistro, 4th and Broadway, from 5:45 to 7:00 p.m. October 20. If you know of young persons (ages 18-35) who may be interested in joining Rotaract, please ask them to attend and go along with them if possible. At the event there will be a presentation on "Why Rotaract Could Be for You," as well as an opportunity to mingle and meet with current Rotaract members. The mission of Rotaract is to bring together high-energy young professionals in a fun environment and encourage community involvement, professional growth, and development of leadership skills. Rotaract activities in recent years have included involvement in Special Olympics, Adopt-a-Highway, and Central Missouri Food Bank. Rotaract meets at 5:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month at the Colosseum Bistro. For more information, contact Ashley Edler at 817-5409 or abedler@yahoo.com.   •  CLUB SOCIAL EVENT: Mark your calendar for our next club social, which will be held on Thursday, September 29, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the University Club. The per-person cost will be $10, which will include beer, wine and hors d'oeuvres. RSVP and send checks to Paula Tiernan, 709 Boulder Dr., Columbia, MO 65201 (make checks payable to Paula). Club members who belong to the University Club may pay through their University Club account -- just let Paula know that's what you want to do. Club members are invited to make an evening of it by having dinner at the University Club after the social. For that evening only, club members who are not University Club members may enjoy dinner there but will need to pay with a credit card or cash. To make reservations, call Emily at 882-2586 and tell her you're with Rotary.
  • BOARD CANDIDATES: The Nominating Committee has nominated the following six club members as candidates for three Board of Directors positions to be filled in the Club Election on September 29: Lex Akers, Jim Elliott, Glen Heggie, Darlene Johnson, Jim Ollar and Al Tacker.   • FUND RAISER:  The club is now actively selling sterling silver bracelets with a pawprint charm as a fundraiser. 20% of the profits go to the local community and 80% to projects in Mexico.  Check out the flyer for additional details, or see Janice, Darlene or Phil.

Cindy Sheltmire introduced our speaker, Glenn McElroy, who presented a virtual tour of the YouZeum.

The YouZeum is dedicated to improving community health by providing interactive exhibits, demonstrations, classes and presentations that will encourage the discovery and investigation of health-related topics. It includes traveling exhibits and community outreach programs designed to improve personal, family and community health by reaching a large, diverse audience with an engaging approach to health education.

The facility is scheduled to open in 2006 and will be located in downtown Columbia in the historic Federal Building.  Find out more and take a virtual tour of the YouZeum online at www.youzeum.org.
